Advocacy Update
The National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD) passed a resolution recommending members send letters to the makers of home pregnancy tests encouraging them to place a warning in a prominent and conspicuous location in the packaging and/or labeling of their test kits advising women about the risks of using alcohol during pregnancy.

Awareness
Each year September 9th is designated as International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Day. The goal of the day is to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking during pregnancy, promote prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancies, and encourage support for individuals and families affected by FASD. However, anytime is a good time to raise awareness, provide education, and support families affected by FASD.

FASD Awareness Day
Each year September 9th is designated as International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Day. The goal of the day is to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking during pregnancy, promote prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancies, and encourage support for individuals and families affected by FASD.

The first FAS Awareness Day was celebrated on 9/9/99.The ninth day of the ninth month of 1999 was selected to symbolize the nine months of pregnancy. In recognition of FASD Day groups around the world host awareness events. Proclamations are issued in countries, states, provinces, and towns; a bell concordance is held at 9:09 a.m. in every time zone from New Zealand to Alaska; training programs are held; and people gather at community events. Many locations expand FASD recognition over the entire month of September.
